How MarketLens works
The thinking behind the product: the problem it solves, how the workflow connects research to decisions, the deliberate trade-offs, and why every conclusion stays explainable.
The problem
Competitive research is fragmented, manual, and quickly becomes outdated.
Competitive information is spread across websites, pricing pages, product pages, changelogs, reviews and announcements. Piecing it together by hand is slow, and the picture is stale the moment a competitor ships something new.
Competitors are usually discovered manually — and the ones you don't already know about never make it into the analysis at all. And even with good research in hand, turning it into an actual product decision is the hardest step of all.
The insight
The real problem isn't finding information. It's turning information into decisions.
MarketLens is designed around the gap between research and the decision it should serve:
ResearchEvidenceInsightRecommendationDecision
Most tools stop after the first arrow and produce a one-time AI report. MarketLens continuously connects these layers — so research stays attached to evidence, evidence feeds insight, insight becomes a recommendation, and a recommendation can be followed through to a decision you track.
The workflow
Nine connected steps, from one product to ongoing intelligence.
- 1. Analyze
Understand the user's product and market from what the product itself says.
- 2. Discover
Automatically identify relevant competitors — chosen for relevance, not fame.
- 3. Research
Gather current information and sources from live competitor websites.
- 4. Understand
Turn research into evidence-backed competitive intelligence: positioning, strengths, gaps, opportunities, threats.
- 5. Explore
Compare products, markets, competitors and historical intelligence side by side.
- 6. Ask AI
Ask questions using the existing intelligence context — answers are grounded in this workspace's evidence.
- 7. Challenge
Question conclusions and inspect the supporting or conflicting evidence behind them.
- 8. Decide
Turn insights and recommendations into strategic decisions you can track.
- 9. Track
Monitor competitors and meaningful changes over time, with alerts when something genuinely differs.
Product trade-offs
The product is built around a few deliberate trade-offs.
Automation vs. control
AI recommends and automates research, but you stay in control of competitor selection and strategic decisions. Nothing is researched or decided until you confirm it.
Speed vs. evidence quality
MarketLens prioritizes useful research without hiding where information came from. Every claim keeps its source, its retrieval date, and how confident the system is in it.
Completeness vs. honesty
When evidence is insufficient, the system shows Unknown rather than inventing an answer. A gap you can see is more useful than a fact you can't trust.
One-time report vs. persistent intelligence
Analyses, evidence, versions, changes and decisions are stored, so intelligence becomes more useful over time instead of going stale in a document.
AI's role
AI is the research and reasoning layer — not the decision maker.
AI is used to do the legwork that makes grounded strategy possible:
- Competitor discovery
- Research
- Synthesis
- Analysis
- Contextual questions
- Challenging conclusions
- Identifying changes
- Connecting evidence to strategic implications
The AI's job is to find the truth, not defend its previous answer.
You retain decision authority: the AI recommends, connects and explains — you choose which competitors to research, whether to accept a recommendation, and what the product does next.
Trust architecture
Every important conclusion should be explainable.
MarketLens keeps an unbroken chain between what it says and where it came from:
ClaimEvidenceSourceResearch runAnalysis
- Evidence — each finding links back to the material it was read from, and the source links to the page itself.
- Source attribution — every claim names where it came from and when it was last verified.
- Freshness — sources are labelled Fresh, Recently verified, Aging or Stale so you know how current the picture is.
- Confidence — statements carry an explicit confidence level based on the number, quality, recency and consistency of supporting sources.
- Fact vs. inference vs. unknown — observed facts, MarketLens inferences and recommendations are always labelled, and missing evidence is shown as Unknown.
- Conflicting evidence — when sources disagree, the disagreement is surfaced rather than averaged away.
Observed factMarketLens inferenceRecommendationThese labels appear throughout the workspace, exactly as they will in your analyses.
